Field Ethos Outrider: Cowboy Camp

The team at Novix recently took a step back in time on a Field Ethos Outrider Hosted Hunt with FE’s own Mike Schoby and Jake Franklin of Kika Worldwide Outfitters. Nestled amidst the scenic hills of California, a traditional cowboy camp awaited, complete with horses, wall tents, and an authentic homage to old-fashioned hunting. The experience proved to be an unforgettable blend of adventure and camaraderie, etched against the backdrop of the legendary Jack Ranch in San Luis Obispo County.

Upon arrival, we sighted in our rifles and quickly saddled up for the first-afternoon hunt. We split into groups of two to cover more ground but ultimately came up short of success. As we arrived into camp on horseback, we were greeted with cocktails, a fantastic home-cooked meal, and a roaring campfire.

Day two was much more relaxed, enjoying coffee while the sun rose through the oaks. Mike connected with a boar that morning, so morale was high, and later that evening, Alex, Brad, T.J., and Jon also killed boars.

The trip was unforgettable for both Novix and Field Ethos, and the laughter and connection will last a lifetime. The experience of a traditional cowboy camp and the work done by the team at Kika was incredible and one we will not soon forget.
